When reading My Freshman Year I found the concept and the overall theme of the story very interesting. I enjoyed hearing how her time as a student went at her age. Her experiences were very interesting and some I found very relatable, while others seemed opposite than for me here at Bloomsburg. I found it very interesting when she talked about viewing the buildings and how she seemed almost lost when walking around, even though she was in administration there, just like any other freshman. I also found the Welcome Week very similar as well. She talked about how the RA's were always reminding them of the next upcoming event and I thought about our OWL's and how the smiles and peppy attitude never left them throughout all of orientation. Some things that I found different was the description of the dorms, and specifically the decorations. Just as we analyzed in class, many girls here decorate their rooms with pictures of friends and family back at home. In the story they used cut-outs of magazines and popular quotes. Overall I find the story very interesting and am curious to see how the rest of her semester goes.
On the other hand, I found On Ethnography very bland. The information provided was more like any other college reading and was harder to get through. I found it educational and I understood the information being suppled to me, just preferred the first reading over this one. Some things I did like about it was the use of analogies to help express the information clearer. This is just like the use of the juggling when talking about the main topic of the novel.
